Area besieged by record cold temperatures

The recent nighttime cold temperatures were ones for the record books.
According to the National Weather Service’s Deer Park Airport station, the temperature dipped to minis-6 degrees shortly after midnight on Feb. 20. The previous cold weather mark for that day, according to, was 2 degrees set in 1890.
Things got colder the next day. The temperature in Deer Park dropped to minus-13 degrees at 6:53 a.m. on Feb. 21. The previous record for that day was minus-2 degrees set in 1894.
