Deer Park Winterfest set for Saturday

The 32nd annual Deer Park Winter Festival will be held Saturday at Deer Park High School.
Tireless community volunteer Karen Martino will serve as the festival’s honored citizen. Martino will be honored along with Janet Day, who created this year’s Winterfest logo.
The 5K Frostbite Foot Race, one of the events that were part of the first Winter Festival, will start at 10 a.m. The 3.1-mile race will start and end at the high school.
A new event will be a Lego contest, which will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The youth chess tournament will also start at 10 a.m.
The outhouse races, another original Winter Festival event, will start at noon near the DPHS baseball field.
Dog weight pulls will start at 9 a.m. for the novice division. IWPA sanctioned will start at noon.
The volleyball tournament will start at 11 a.m. in the gymnasium.
Musical entertainment will be provided by the Deer Park High School band at 10:30 a.m., Deer Park Middle School choir at 12:30 p.m., The Ragtag Romantics at 1:30 p.m. and the Wild Rose Rambler Square Dancers at 3 p.m.
The Winter Festival’s closing ceremonies is set for 4:30 p.m. Unlike previous years, no bonfire or fireworks are planned this year.
