Grizzlies hold off late Lady Stag rally

Newport's Cyndi Lewis and Alika Robinson contributed 3-pointers midway through the fourth quarter and the Lady Grizzlies held on for a 50-42 win over Deer Park last night.
The win improved Newport's Northeast A League record to 4-5 and 8-7 overall. The Lady Stags fell to 3-6, 6-8.
Lewis and Robinson's long-range shooting gave the Lady Grizzlies a 45-36 lead midway through the fourth quarter. The Lady Stags answered with a 6-0 run later in the quarter but could not cut the margin any closer than 47-42.
Robinson slated the game away with three free throws in the final minute.
Newport ended up with three players in double figures, led by Jocelin Nenema's 19 points.
Deer Park point guard led the Lady Stags with 12 points while Taylor Lyons added 11 more.
The Lady Stags travel to Medical Lake for a 5:45 p.m. match-up today.
