The Riverside Lady Rams, spurred on by a second quarter scoring outburst, downed the Deer Park Stags 40-30 last night.
The win, in Riverside's season finale, improved their Northeast League record to 2-12 and 7-14 overall. The loss dropped the Lady Stags to 3-11 and 7-13. The defeat also eliminated Deer Park from the District VII tournament.
Brittney Zeinhert keyed the second quarter scoring barrage with a three-pointer. The Lady Rams ended up outscoring the Lady Rams 13-7 in the quarter to take a 18-13 halftime lead.
Riverside dominated both ends of the court in the third quarter. The Lady Rams, keyed by another long-range bomb, this time by Ava West, went on a 9-1 run to start the quarter. Deer Park did not convert a basket until Taylor Lyons hit a shot with 1:55 remaining in the quarter.
The Lady Rams, who held their own against the taller Lady Stags underneath the basket, held a double-digit lead for the final eight minutes.
Riverside’s Brittney Nortz, one of the factors inside, led all scorers with 12 points. West added 10 more.
Lyons, who hit 2 of the Lady Stags three baskets in the second half, paced Deer Park with 11 points.
