For the sixth year, Spokane County Library District is participating in the American Express Shop Small event on Small Business Saturday, which encourages the community to support local businesses and the Shop Small movement. For the first time this year, the event is getting extended beyond Saturday and will be a week long, starting on November 27 and ending on December 4. The Deer Park Library is one out of 4 libraries in the district that are stepping up to be the Neighborhood Champions who will be rallying support for local businesses and bringing the community together during the holidays, and year round! (Cheney, Medical Lake, and Millwood are the other SCLD libraries involved.)

To join in the week-long festivities, you can visit the Deer Park Library on November 27 (or anytime during the week) to pick up your “passport” for the Shop Small Passport Challenge, a map of local, small businesses, and a shopping tote (while supplies last). As you shop at participating businesses, be sure to gather stamps on your passport and bring the completed passport back to the library before 6 P.M. on December 4. Turning in your stamped passport automatically enters you to win the Shop Small Passport Challenge. The lucky prize winner gets to choose from one of the involved small businesses for their gift certificate and will be notified by December 10. The Shop Small prizes are sponsored by Friends of the Library.
