The Chewelah boys basketball team, stoked by a strong second half, easily dispatched the Riverside Rams 71-43 last night.
The win improved the Cougars’ Northeast A League record to 6-7 and 9-9 overall. The Rams fell to 0-13, 2-18.
Leading only 31-23 at halftime, the Cougars quickly built a double-digit lead in the third quarter behind the outside shooting of Gavin Parrot. The Rams managed to cut the deficit to 10 points on a couple of occasions but could not get the margin into single digits.
Any chance of a Riverside comeback were quickly squashed in the fourth quarter as Chewelah went on a 15-0 run. The Rams went more than 5 minutes before TJ Trepanier finally hit a field goal.
The Rams close out their season with a 7:30 p.m. game tomorrow at Deer Park (5-8, 8-11).
