City to help with Settlers group's insurance woes

Staff Writer

The city has made an offer on insurance coverage that the Tri-County Settlers Association could not refuse.
The Settlers Association lost its coverage when the financially strapped Deer Park Ambulance, insurance underwriters for the annual community event for the more than a decade, decided it could no longer foot the bill.
The Settlers group, facing its own financial difficulties, asked the city if it could help in securing insurance.
City officials made a series of telephone calls and found an insurance carrier, K&K Insurance of Fort Wayne, Ind., willing to write a necessary policy. The $1 million general liability policy comes with a premium price tag of $2,500 for this year’s event on July 28.
