Cougars' free throw shooting helps them get past the Stags

Chewelah’s Dawson Youngblood and Gavin Parrott converted six straight free throws in the final 26 seconds to help the Cougars squeeze past the Deer Park Stags 49-44 last night.
The win improved Chewelah’s Northeast A League record to 2-2 and 5-3 overall. The Stags fell to 2-2, 4-5.
The Cougars, who dominated most of the action in the first half, held a 37-34 lead going into the final quarter. The Stags finally took the lead, 40-39, on a pair of Isaac Berglund free throws. The teams traded the lead for most of the final 5 minutes, before Deer Park took a 44-41 lead on a Berglund basket with less than a minute to go.
The Cougars closed the gap to 44-43 on an offensive rebound basket by Elan Krauz with 27.2 seconds remaining and secured the win with their subsequent march to the foul line.
Youngblood, who canned a pair of 3-pointers earlier in the game, led all scorers with 19 points. Berglund paced the Stags with 16 points.
Deer Park travels to Lakeside for another NE-A League match-up at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
