The Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network reported an earthquake at 2:16 p.m. on March 6 near Chattaroy.
The tremor, reported at a depth of .4 miles, had a magnitude of 2.3, which means the event was probably not felt by anyone in the area. It was one of four, and the only one in Eastern Washington, reported by the PNSN on that day.
Scientists refer to these low magnitude events as microequakes.
The PNSN is located at the University of Washington and is funded, in part, by the U.S. Geological Survey, the federal Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation.
