Fourth quarter surge carries Lady Stags past Riverside

The Deer Park girls basketball team, fueled by a 10-0 run early in the fourth quarter, withstood a late Riverside Lady Rams’ rally to down their Northeast A League rivals 43-39.
The win improved the Lady Stags’ Northeast A League record to 2-5 (5-7 overall), while the Lady Rams fell to 0-7, 4-10.
After Riverside tied the game 30-30 on a Brittney Nortz free throw in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, the Deer Park squad ran off 10 unanswered points, fueled by three-pointers by Lot Boone and Taylor Lyons.
The Lady Rams regrouped on a bucket and four free throws by Olivia Willis to trim the lead to 40-36 but could not get any closer. The Lady Stags closed the deal with a free throw by JoJo Bunch and a basket by Hava Fairbanks in the game’s final 2 minutes.
Bunch led the Deer Park attack with 17 points, while Fairbanks chipped in with 10. Willis was the leading scorer for the Lady Rams with 17 points.
Deer Park returns home Tuesday for a 5:45 p.m. encounter with Colville. Riverside travels to Medical Lake for a match-up with the league-leading Cardinals at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
