Sheriff's Department continues to investigate online threat

Staff Writer

Spokane County detectives are investigating these online threats made on a Facebook account against sheriff’s who will not support the recently voter approved Initiative 1639.
The initiative sets requirements on gun storage and background checks and raises the minimum age to 21 to purchase semi-automatic assault rifles.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Department was made aware of the threats from a concerned citizen who had read them online. The caller also provided the name of the Facebook account.
A check of the Facebook account with the name provided by the caller showed a comment referencing Republicans stating, “i am going to kill every single one of them” on a shared news story reporting after Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones announced he was instructing his deputies not to enforce Initiative 1639.
More posts referencing I-1639 said, “sheriffs that are non compliant will be shot. by me.” and “(Spokane County Sheriff) Ozzie Knezovich is gonna get a bullet in his skull”.
Detectives forwarded the information to the Joint Terrorism Task Force and law enforcement agencies across the state.
The National Rifle Association and Second Amendment Foundation have filed suits to block implementation of I-1639, claiming it violates the U.S. Constitution.
