Spokane County voters approving ballot measures (updated 8/8)

Staff Writer

Spokane County voters appear to have approved a pair of ballot measures that will increase funding for library and public safety services.
In ballot tabulations from the Aug. 6 primary election as of Aug. 8, voters are supportive of a Spokane County Library District levy lid request. The measure, which will boost the library district's levy rate to $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, has a 30,329-24,954 lead in an early round of ballot counting. A simple majority is needed for the measure to be approved.
A ballot measure that will maintain the .1 percent sales tax to help pay for public safety services in Spokane County is also leading in early ballot returns. The measure, which only needs a simple majority for passage, has a substantial 66,411-24,954 lead.
In the lone area Stevens Country race, Michael Moehnke and April Steinbach are the top two vote-getters in the race for the Mary Walker School Board District 2 position. The duo are easily leading fellow challengers Gordon Mann, Jeanette Hallgarth and Dirk Wright.
Both elections will not be certified until Aug. 20.
