The Deer Park wrestling team, relying on late-in-the-evening pins by Hunter Leliefeld and Amir Nuriddeen, squeezed past Colville 41-35 last night in a showdown of two of the best Class 1A teams in the state.
The match saw the lead seesaw back and forth. The Indians were finally staked themselves to a 35-32 advantage following pins by Takota Ashley (170 pounds) and John Knight (182).
The Stags made its final push when senior Leliefeld held off Colville’s Hunter Tharaldson 6-5 in the 195-pound showdown.
The win meant the winner of the 220-pound showdown between Nuriddeen and Ryder Goff would decide the match and probably the Northeast A League title.
Nuriddeen, a senior, took quick control and pinned his Colville rival 96 seconds into the match.
