The Deer Park Stags pushed across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge the Lakeside Eages 5-4 in the opening (single elimination) round of the District VII baseball tournament yesterday.
The Stags, the Northeast A League’s third seed, saw their 3-0 lead evaporate as the Eagles scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and two more in the top of the seventh thanks to a run-scoring double by Jeramie Sonnabend.
The Eagles defense let them down in the bottom of the seventh as two errors and a bunt single by Robbie Bolton tied the game at 4-4. Brandon Moore’s single scored Bolton and sent the Stags to the double-elimination round of the tournament.
Relief pitcher Kooper Tobeck, who limited the Lakeside damage in the seventh inning picked up the win. Eagle starter Drew Shuler took the loss.
The Stags travel to Chewelah this afternoon to face the second-seeded Cougars. The team split their two games this season.
