Update: McMorris Rodgers, Brown in a dead heat

Incumbent Fifth District Republican Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers finds herself in a dead heat with Democrat challenger Lisa Brown in overnight primary election ballot countiing. McMorris Rodgers has garnered 57,318 votes to Brown's 56,703.
More ballots are expected to be counted in the next couple of days.
In the U.S. Senate race, Democrat incumbent Maria Cantwell easily topped the crowded field with 573,017 votes. She will face a challenge by Republican Susan Hutchison (246,296) in the November general election.
In the Seventh District state legislative races, incumbent Sen. Shelly Short, a Republican, holds a commandin 17,905-9,695 lead over Democrat Karen Hardy. Republican incumbent Rep. Jacquelin Maycumber leads Randall Michaelis, a Democrat 17,480-9,549 and incumbent Rep. Joel Kretz, a Republican, has amassed 17,169 votes, more than the number accumulated by his three challengers, Crystal Oliver, Mike Bell and Christine Ives.
